Great finish of Luis Michael Dörrbecker in the F2000 Italy:

Summary

Last racing weekend of the Formula Renault 2000 Italy Series at Varano. Luis Michael had a great finish of his first European Championship with his new Team Torino.

The Team Torino closed the year holding the Champion and the Runner Up.

At the same time they were surprised about the capacity and the good work of the Mexican driver during the weekend.

A 10th position and a dnf after some problems in the qualification on a race track practically un impossible to overtake.

Luis Michael finished the Formula Renault 2000 Italy Championship in the junior class (drivers max 18 years of age) in an excellent 2nd place and in the overall standings in 8th position.

With this result the Mexican demonstrates that he is prepared for the 2012 racing season in Europe.

Training and qualification

Michael learning the track with his new racing engineer receiving a lot of information about his driving style and the racing car!

The qualification is divided in two runs, main disturbance the amount of traffic on the track.

First run, Michi clock´s the 8th fastest time just behind his two team mates. Going out on track again the team mates are able to advance 2 spots, Michael has to deal with traffic and instead of advancing he drops back to the 12th position on the starting grid!?

Race 1

The Varano race track is very similar to the Formula 1 track at Mónaco:

Short start-finish straight, chicane, short straight, horseshoe, short straight, chicane, short straight, turn, horseshoe, turn and again over the short start-finish straight.

Race track practically without possibility to overtake!

Michael, known for his good starts, catapults himself from the 12th to a 9th position into the first chicane. At the exit of this chicane the driver in 8th place pushes Michi over the curbs, he has to lift the accelerator pedal, looses the just gained spots and returns back on the track as 13th!

From there Michael is able to perform one of the few real overtakes during the races and with the help of some bad luck of his competitors he advances to a 10th position at the finish line!

Race 2

Again a blitzen start by Michael from 10th to 8th place. After the first few corners cars are settled in Indian line.

From behind comes a competitor known for his robust driving style, we name him “Pushi”!

He hits the suspension of the car following Michael, next braking into the chicane after the start-finish straight, the suspension collapses.

Going on without loosing time “Pushi” puts his attention on Michael:

Braking in the horseshoe, he tries to put his car under Luis Michael, banging wheels, Michi beats back, “Pushi” has to let go, only short time, again approaching the horseshoe “Pushi” brakes “a little late”, hits Michael in the back of his car, Michi like a clicker murmel instead of turning in goes straight, through the gravel trap, hits the tire barrier in front of the wall and his race is over.

“Racing accident!” will the race officials say afterwards.

Michael trying not to lose his countenance, between the anger of not being able to defend himself and the sadness about the end of his first European Championship and  his first racing weekend with the Team Torino as a dnf in the wall.

Thanks

Michael terminates as 2nd in the Junior Championship of the Formula Renault 2000 Italy and 8th overall under 29 drivers which have participated over the year 2011 in the series.

All that was possible thanks to his sponsors PAGID, Michelin and GIPSA as well as through the help of the Schaeffler Group, Cauchotec, Ronal and Bosch.
